Children of incarcerated parents need to know they are not alone and not abandoned. Communities need to know what these children face.
The cycle of crime and incarceration produces broken relationships, victimization, despair, and instability impacting families and communities across the state and the nation.
Children of Color Organization is here to support youth, parents, caregivers, and friends who are impacted by the devastating residual effects of incarceration.
Demonstrated Outcomes
Ex-offenders who are no longer in the criminal justice system and who have been successful in the community are role models to transitioning parents. Members have provided referral assistance and encouraged them to set goals, find jobs, and most of all become the parents they have always wanted to be but never knew how.
Support for Communities
Providing support to children and communities impacted by incarceration is vital to strengthening and restoring normalcy to families. Children of Color Organization understands that support is not a one-time event, it is a continual process to repair the breach in the levees of the family's foundation. It's vital to create a continual stream of hope that fosters growth and encouragement.
That is why COCO provides support year-round as well as through its annual event that is focused on creating joy in the lives of impacted children who would otherwise suffer from feelings of inadequacy and abandonment.
“With the support from Children of Color Organization, countless children in our community have hope for a brighter day.”
